If you're watching the Olympics, you'll notice the ubiquitous headphones & i-pods many of the athletes are using.? They probably combine music with perhaps motivating mantras. ? I'd love to get some of those play lists!? They are using the power of music to keep them focused and fired up.
Music has a tremendous ability to create a strong internal mood. It can motivate us and let us wipe away any fear or anxiety, or it can soothe, and allow us tap in to the power of tranquility-whatever is needed can be had at just the right moment, through music.
You don't have to be an Olympic athlete to benefit from their training tips.? When you're speaking in public, you're? performing, so why not use music as part of your preparation?? Ask yourself how you want to feel when you're? delivering your message to your audience, and how you want them to feel, too.?
It's you who will determine the tone for the speech, and your music? that will help shape that tone.?? When the speaker has clarity of purpose along with a strong connection with their message, it's a win/win for them and the audience.?
Tips for implementing music in to your speaking prep:
1) get yourself in to a quiet place & write down all the songs you remember loving to listen to
2) give a fresh listen to each song, and list the keepers...along with short notes on how they make you feel
3) make play lists of them for your workouts and walks-get? the physical energy rolling
4) once you start writing your key points, practice listening to your music & then speaking them aloud
